STRAAT judges Blind Walls Open Call

STRAAT curator David Roos visited Breda last weekend to judge the Blind Walls Open Call 2022. The jury - which aside from David consisted of Dennis Elbers (Blind Walls Gallery) and Gabi Brunhoso (winner Open Call 2021) - awarded Floor Milou Smit after extensive debating. She will produce a mural in Breda’s public space this upcoming summer. 

Through the annual Open Call, Blind Walls Gallery looks for artists to create murals. A few weeks ago the eight chosen talents were announced. Last weekend they translated their design into a mural painting at Blind Walls Wall Spot on the Speelhuislaan. The designs were inspired by the local CrossArts project. 

Stijn Ros & Jesse Paauwe, Barbara Helmer, Loes van Reijmersdal, Floor Milou Smit, Jet Parent, VAAF, Ellis Tolsma and Timber Sommerdijk were selected to create a mural at the Wall Spot out of 114 submissions. In the process of going from briefing to mural they were guided by experts Hedof, Guido de Boer - also on display in STRAAT, Jan van der Ploeg, Anuli Croon, Ilse Weisfelt, Nina Valkhoff and Jeroen Erosie.
