We offer different activities in and around the museum and at school. Read below for the different options. A number of activities can be booked directly, for other activities you can contact us.
Discover the STRAAT collection with one of our experienced guides and get to know everything about our museum, the different themes and styles, and more. An interactive guided tour in which students will be challenged to actively reflect on street art, combined with stimulating questions about multiple works in our collection.

Combine the guided tour in our museum with a guided tour of the NDSM wharf. This special part of Amsterdam has a unique history, which includes a big street art chapter. In graffiti terms, the NDSM wharf is what we call a hall of fame, a place where street artists can paint ‘freely’. This indoor and outdoor guided tour is ideal for the warmer months of the year.

Would you like to bring your class to the STRAAT Museum without booking an educational program? Then book an independent group visit. This allows you to visit the museum without the guidance of a museum teacher, but requires you to supervise the students yourself. We recommend preparing an assignment for your visit.

Our workshop graffiti allows students to discover what it’s like to create art with spray cans. Before the start of the workshop, students have the opportunity to visit the museum on their own and find inspiration. The workshop can also be combined with a tour hosted by one of our experienced guides (€ 7,- extra p.p.).

Our workshop stencil art allows students to discover what it’s like to create art with templates (stencils). Before the start of the workshop, students have the opportunity to visit the museum on their own and find inspiration. Inspired by the works in our collection, the students will then create their own stencil art on paper. The workshop can also be combined with a tour hosted by one of our experienced guides (€ 10,- extra p.p.). Afterwards, the students get to take home their artwork.Â

In our typography workshop, students will build, design and develop their own letters, based on particular subgenres in graffiti. Consequence and balance in their font will be a big part of the day. The assignments will be done on paper. This workshop is ideal to organize in the art classroom at your school. Ideal for art or graphic design students.

The history and development of street art as a modern-day phenomenon. Students will learn more about the origins of graffiti, the first interactions with the established art world, artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and the role of Dutch museums in the acceptance of street art as a museal art form. Ultimately, they will have a better understanding of the current popularity of street art as a modern art form and global movement. Ideal for art history students.

This guest lecture revolves around the question ‘what makes art art?’. Students will learn more about the so-called gatekeepers in the cultural field and the advocates of graffiti as a museal artform through the history and ‘artification’ of graffiti and street art. This way, the history of graffiti and street art is combined with a deeper pondering of the question ‘when is something considered art?’. Ideal for art history students.

In this guest lecture we’ll take a closer look at the predecessors of STRAAT. Why were Dutch museums Boijmans van Beuningen and Groninger Museum the first acclaimed international museums to exhibit graffiti as art in 1983/1984? Where do renowned Dutch museum directors Wim Beeren and Frans Haks place graffiti in the bigger story of art history? Ideal for art history students.
