In our museum

We offer different activities in and around the museum and at school. Read below for the different options. A number of activities can be booked directly, for other activities you can contact us.


Guided tour STRAAT Museum

Discover the STRAAT collection with one of our experienced tour guides and delve into the world of street art and graffiti, and the diverse styles and artists. During this interactive guided tour, students will be encouraged to observe closely, uncover the messages within the artwork, and actively engage in discussions about the different roles of street art.


Duration: 60 minutes

Price: € 12,- per student

Number of participants: Maximum of 15 participants per group. No more than 3 groups per time slot.

Guided tour STRAAT Museum + NDSM wharf

Combine the guided tour in our museum with a guided tour of the NDSM wharf. This special part of Amsterdam has a unique history, which includes a big street art chapter. In graffiti terms, the NDSM wharf is what we call a hall of fame, a place where street artists can paint ‘freely’. This indoor and outdoor guided tour is ideal for the warmer months of the year.


Duration: 90 minutes

Price: € 15,- per student

Independent group visit

Would you like to bring your class to the STRAAT Museum without booking an educational program? Then book an independent group visit. This allows you to visit the museum without the guidance of a museum teacher, but requires you to supervise the students yourself. We recommend preparing an assignment for your visit.


Duration: 60 minutes

Price: € 9.50 per student

Number of participants: Maximum of 45 students per time slot. Requirement of 1 school chaperone for every 15 students.

Workshop graffiti

Our workshop graffiti allows students to discover what it’s like to create art with spray cans. Our experienced workshop teacher will always take the students to the museum first to check out cool examples. That way, the students are guaranteed to find the necessary inspiration to create their very own masterpiece. The end of the workshop is a great moment to take a nice group picture as a souvenir of this special day.


Duration: 120 minutes

Workshop graffiti letters

In this workshop, students get an easy introduction to drawing graffiti letters. We start with a quick tour through the museum to explore various examples and styles of graffiti letters, after which students get busy themselves. Through two different graffiti styles, they’ll learn step-by-step how to develop their own letters and practice on paper.


Duration: 90 minutes

Price: €17.50 per student, this includes museum admission and materials.

Number of participants: Maximum 30 participants per group. 1 group per time slot.

This workshop can also be provided off-site by our instructors. The price for this off-site program is available upon request.

Workshop stencil art

The workshop stencil art allows students to discover what it’s like to create art with templates (stencils). The workshop starts with 30 minutes in our museum to check out some cool examples. Inspired by the works in our collection, the students will then create their own stencil art. Afterwards, the students get to take home their artwork. 


Duration: 150 minutes

Price: € 25,- per student

Number of participants: Maximum of 30 students. No more than 2 groups per time slot.

At school

Guest lecture street art introduction

The history and development of street art as a modern-day phenomenon. Students will learn more about the origins of graffiti, the first interactions with the established art world, artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and the role of Dutch museums in the acceptance of street art as a museal art form. Ultimately, they will have a better understanding of the current popularity of street art as a modern art form and global movement.

Guest lecture the symbolic production of art

This guest lecture revolves around the question ‘what makes art art?’. Students will learn more about the so-called gatekeepers in the cultural field and the advocates of graffiti as a museal artform through the history and ‘artification’ of graffiti and street art. This way, the history of graffiti and street art is combined with a deeper pondering of the question ‘when is something considered art?’.

Guest lecture Dutch museums as early adopters of street art

In this guest lecture we’ll take a closer look at the predecessors of STRAAT. Why were Dutch museums Boijmans van Beuningen and Groninger Museum the first acclaimed international museums to exhibit graffiti as art in 1983/1984? Where do renowned Dutch museum directors Wim Beeren and Frans Haks place graffiti in the bigger story of art history?
