STRAAT @ HKwalls

In the build-up towards a more extensive collaborative effort, STRAAT Head Curator David Roos was invited to take part in multiple talks for this year’s edition of HKwalls during Art Basel Hong Kong. HKwalls holds an annual street art festival in Hong Kong during Hong Kong’s art month each March, as well as year-round programming that focuses on artists’ career development and raising awareness through the arts.

If These Walls Could Talk

The recent explosion of muralism around the world has, arguably, established itself as the most dominant form of modern street art. As the walls get bigger and money floods the scene, what does this mean to the authenticity of the culture and the communities the artwork exists within? David interviewed Hera from Germany and Nut from China to hear their perspectives about the future of murals.

Street Art: Behind The Scene

The explosion of graffiti and street art as an industry has opened up a wide range of new roles and opportunities for engagement. Doug Gillen asked David, ALL CAPS’ Daniel and HKwalls’ Maria how the changing shape of the culture has opened up new avenues of exploration. From curating walls, to running museums or street art festivals, David and co discussed the responsibilities and opportunities that lie ahead for the future.
