The commission involved the creation of a two-part mural located on the ceilings of two adjacent arches in a public pathway by a local park. The brief called for a design that would complement the surrounding urban architecture while evoking themes of community, connection, and integration with nature. Executed directly onto stucco using durable, weather-resistant materials, the mural was designed to be viewed from multiple angles over time, encouraging reflection and curiosity. Through dynamic colour fields and fluid geometric compositions, Mr. June transformed the space into a vibrant, contemplative corridor—both a striking visual landmark and a symbol of shared belonging within the neighbourhood.
Mr June’s mural work is rooted in the dynamic relationship between himself and the specific site. As a result, he offers viewers at Schimmelstraat an alternative experience of the environment—one that has been optically transformed through form, color, and perspective.
He always responds directly to the space and its surroundings, aiming to create a unique cohesion between the environment, the painting, and the viewer. This cohesion can be noted in how he connects the material of the building, the greenery of the nearby park and the reflection of the canal to give the viewer a sense of space as well as place.
