Mr. June

(The Netherlands, 1971)

After working as a graphic designer for 15 years, Mr. June decided that he needed to focus all his creative energy into one project to truly excel at his work. His sense of design, art, graffiti and muralism were all combined into a single artistic endeavor, hinging upon his canvases and murals working in tandem. It led him on a quest for the perfect form, which he found in the hexagon.

“I don’t want to explain my artwork. I want to leave room for interpretation. This is because I allow viewers to interpret my work in their own way and form their own opinions. This can lead to a more open-ended and diverse range of responses, as each person brings their own unique perspective and experiences to the work. I prefer to let the artwork speak for itself. I think that explaining it in words can detract from the overall impact of the piece.” / Mr. June

This artwork was created for our DUO exhibition. This exhibition was conceived by SUSO33 in collaboration with Santiago Herrero, director of Cultural and Scientific Relations for the Spanish Agency for International Development & Cooperation. The exhibition has been carefully curated by SUSO33 and STRAAT's head curator, David Roos. Click here for more info on DUO.

Mr. June (NL) and Okuda San Miguel (ESP) discuss their contributions to DUO. Mr. June and Okuda worked side by side to each create a piece for the theme Visions for the Future.
