STRAAT x Museum of Graffiti x Brooklyn Street Art panel discussion and catalog launch

On December 3rd, we had the honor and pleasure to launch our new STRAAT Catalog in the US during Art Basel Miami with a special panel discussion. This discussion was held at and also included the Museum of Graffiti, and was moderated by Brooklyn Street Art. Artists Nina Valkhoff and Hoxxoh also joined in.

Eloquently described by Brooklyn Street Art’s Steven P. Harrington as a historic moment–ten years ago there were no institutions dedicated exclusively to street art and graffiti–this discussion covered the ongoing challenges both the Museum of Graffiti and ourselves face when it comes to curating what continues to be a counter-culture art form. Now that we’re building these institutions dedicated exclusively to street art and graffiti ourselves–as opposed to seeking acceptance from more traditional art institutes–the challenges of bringing the outdoors indoors still remain. We aim to deal with these delicate matters with the utmost integrity, which we don’t take lightly. It’s a big responsibility, but both institutions believe we're on the right track.

The challenges of curating street art and graffiti are also covered in great detail in our new STRAAT Catalog. Not only does it include new work by the likes of Shepard Fairey, AIKO, Dulk, Super A, and more, it also features contributions by Christian Omodeo, Charlotte Pyatt, the aforementioned Steven P. Harrington, and Carlo McCormick on the unique lane we have carved out for ourselves. To get your own copy of this stunning piece of work, head here.
