In September of this year, STRAAT took part in the two-day masterclass From Vandal to Art 2 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Hosted by Sofia Graffiti Tour and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, From Vandal to Art 2 focuses on the current view and development of street art and graffiti culture.
Our STRAAT curator David Roos, our STRAAT Education Manager Alex Pope, Dutch artist David ‘Mr. June’ Louf, and our guest speaker Javier Abarca gave presentations to a group of young Bulgarian artists and students, on topics such as our museum, the symbolic production of art, a career in street art, and the anti style phenomenon. The screening of Stunned Film’s iconic Amsterdam graffiti documentary Kroonjuwelen, with Q&A afterwards, was included in the program as well. Mr. June, part of our STRAAT collection, also painted a mural in the streets of Sofia.
