Internationaal straatkunstfestival NALATA in STRAAT Museum

NALATA international street art festival at the STRAAT Museum

The Brazilian Soul Exhibition features nine big names in Brazilian street art

Amsterdam, July 1, 2025

From August 15 through October 31, 2025, the STRAAT Museum will bring São Paulo's international street art festival, NALATA, to Amsterdam with Brazilian Soul. The exhibition, in the museum’s main hall, features large-scale works from the 2024 edition of the NALATA festival by nine big names in the Brazilian street art movement. This is the second and final exhibition included in the Brazilian summer at STRAAT, that is a follow up to last week’s opening of the Pixação: Resistance and Rebellion exhibition.

About NALATA

Over the past five years, the NALATA Festival has become known for its commitment to urban transformation and the democratization of art, establishing itself as one of Latin America’s leading art festivals. Since 2020, it has left a significant legacy in the city of São Paulo, with more than 64 artworks on walls, gables, containers, schools, store windows, and sculptures spread throughout the city. In total, the festival has transformed over 13,000 cubic meters of surfaces and used more than 11,000 liters of paint. In doing so, it has redefined public spaces by promoting a vast, open-air museum that showcases works by major national and international artists active in the graffiti scene. The Festival offers a new experience to everyone who encounters these artworks and installations, while also encouraging the emergence of new talent.

In its fifth edition, held in 2024, NALATA announced an unprecedented partnership with the STRAAT Museum—the Amsterdam-based street art and graffiti museum—by presenting a pop-up version of the Dutch museum in São Paulo, featuring large-scale works by both Brazilian and international artists. Throughout the month of October, the Casa NALATA  X STRAAT hosted works by forty Brazilian artists, along with graffiti and video mapping, as well as being a hub for urban art.

The Brazilian Soul Exhibition

At STRAAT, Dolores Esos (1985), Magrela (1985), Pri Barbosa (1990), Deco Treco (1985), Enivo (1986), Lobot (1978), and Mundano (1986) will present large-scale works previously exhibited at the Casa NALATA X STRAAT. Two other Brazilian giants, namely Speto (1971) and Tinho (1973), will create site-specific pieces directly in the museum space, and Zéh Palito (1986) will show his inflatable sculpture Banana Cósmica (2025) during the first weekend of the exhibition. This large, striking work of art was recently installed opposite the Municipal Theater of São Paulo and is now traveling to Europe for the first time. The festival’s founder and curator, Luan Cardoso, will take part in a panel discussion on Saturday, August 14, alongside artists Speto and Tinho with Alex Pope, the educator at STRAAT.

The Brazilian Soul exhibition is sponsored by the Embassy of Brazil in The Hague and Instituto Guimarães Rosa.

Special artwork by Deco Treco

Especially for the exhibition, STRAAT commissioned Deco Treco to create the artwork for the campaign poster. His work is playful, lively and light-hearted, aiming to create an accessible and enjoyable visual language.

Until August 31, 2025: Pixação: Resistance and Rebellion

The Brazilian summer at STRAAT kicked off last Friday with the Pixação: Resistance and Rebellion exhibition (on view until August 31, 2025). Pixação emerged from São Paulo’s suburbs in the late 1980s, a striking urban intervention defined by straight, angular tags. Far beyond mere vandalism, it stands as a raw declaration of existence created by marginalized youth, defying segregation and social exclusion. Executed using daring techniques—spray paint, rollers, rappelling, and climbing—pixação challenges societal norms and the city’s divided architecture.
