Early 1980’s street culture was one of the biggest influences for Dilk, beginning his career in and around his hometown of Nottingham. He was fascinated by American culture, initially with the breakdancing and hip-hop scenes, which ultimately led him to graffiti. Glimpses of tags in the back of music videos, and eventually the revelation of the book Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant cemented his passion for the scene. Over time, his style became more abstract, using a dreamlike palette that combined sharp lines and intricate drip work.
