TelmoMiel

(The Netherlands)

Telmo and Miel started working together in October 2012. In their collaborative murals, they morphed their individual pieces into one composition. Their work contains playfulness in the abstraction of reality, attempting to make the viewer see subjects with a different eye. They grew into using multiple images, layered over one another. By cutting away a top layer, another layer comes forward to complete the design.

“With this focus on Dutch Masters, we wanted to collaborate with one of them, and create something new with a historical work. We picked the work of Caesar van Everdingen. Caesar developed his own distinctive style characterized by rich colors, dramatic lighting, and dynamic compositions - something that fits our way of working as well. We replaced the coal under the cloth with another person to create a juxtaposition between the old and new, and present a new scene from everyday life.” / TelmoMiel

This artwork was created for our DUO exhibition. This exhibition was conceived by SUSO33 in collaboration with Santiago Herrero, director of Cultural and Scientific Relations for the Spanish Agency for International Development & Cooperation. The exhibition has been carefully curated by SUSO33 and STRAAT's head curator, David Roos. Click here for more info on DUO.

TelmoMiel (NL) and Belin (ESP) discuss their contributions to DUO. TelmoMiel and Belin worked side by side to each create a piece for the theme Artistic Legacies.
