Steve ESPO Powers draws from life, distilling everyday situations down into logo types using the language of graffiti and sign painting. He strives to make the universal personal, and the personal universal. His shop, ESPOās ART WORLD, is a community center and print shop in downtown Brooklyn. It has been open since 2013. A new location, ESPOKYO, opened in June 2023 in Tokyo.
āāI am all over the placeā is the chronicle of a visual troubadour, who arrived in Amsterdam with a blank page and an open face. Picking up on influences as he goes, and painting the everyday, every day. The baby is named Felix, he is seven months old, I met him and his father Andrew on the NDSM ferry on our first day here. He is sleepy, but he looks stressed, so I painted him saying āI did not ask for thisā. Parents half- joke and tell their children, hurry up, save the world. But babies like Felix are wise to the game, preferring to not to accept responsibility for our mistakes, not yet. FAITH IN THE FUTURE is for Andrew and for STRAAT, both the man and the institution are doing their best to manifest an incredible future, l have paid for my ticket to the show, I stand in the back, I can't stay long, but Iāl be back later.
