Inspired by Dutch folklore, XXX is based on the legend of the ‘Siren’, a mermaid who gets caught in a fisherman’s net after he had a successful day of fishing. Noticing the devastating impact fishing has on the sea, she warns him about the potential consequences of human greed. Despite the warning, he still fishes as much as he can the following day. As a punishment, the mermaid floods the entire town.
