Nafir installation Carpet Straat International Street Art Museum

Nafir

(Iran)

This installation is a tribute to Nafir’s father, who used to make carpets, but it is also a metaphor for the political situation in his country.

“Unlike western art, which you put on a wall as a decorative thing, Iranian art is something that we actually use. Handmade carpets lie on the floor, where they get old and damaged. I see Iran like that. My place in this museum is on the floor. Because the political situation in Iran is: just crush us and walk on us.” / Nafir
