Joram Roukes earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Minerva Academy of Arts in Groningen in 2006. His work is a dark, humorous play on topics that range from popular culture, global affairs and personal experience. Joram builds juxtapositions of imagery to create abstract narratives and figures that evoke introspection and contemplation.

In Anatomical Study, a skull is cut up, rearranged and remixed to acquire a contemporary meaning. Although this skeletal structure has been used endlessly throughout art history, in Joram’s reexamination it turns into a metaphor for what the current generation of urban artists is doing to art history.
