Joram Roukes

(The Netherlands, 1983)

Referring to the flag of his home country, Joram painted a horse in a red and blue color palette. However, its horseman has been removed as a response to the recent controversy around statues of historical figures - often seen riding a horse - which existed not only in the Netherlands, but all around the world.

“Now people want to take these sculptures down because they represent slave traders, genociders... So I took them off the horse; ‘spare the horses, they didn’t do anything.’” / Joram Roukes
