Hugo Kaagman stands as a prominent figure in the evolution of both international and Dutch street art. His journey began immediately after graduating, as he honed his skills by practicing on the walls of his own home. Notably, in 1978, he pioneered stencil art beyond mere text, earning him the moniker of the 'stencil king' as his influence spread across Europe. Hugo’s innovative approach inspired countless artists, cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in the genre.

In 2013, commissioned by Stadsdeel Amsterdam-Zuid, Hugo created a striking reproduction of Rembrandt van Rijn's iconic Night Watch. This piece, later donated to STRAAT in 2018, serves as a homage to Dutch old masters while offering a contemporary reinterpretation. The project inspired Hugo to explore a diverse array of figures, further showcasing his versatility and creativity.
