Born John Matos in 1961, CRASH was raised in The Bronx. As a young teenager, he began following the older teens from his neighborhood to the train yards. By 1980, he began transitioning from train yards to galleries, as well as curating the ground-breaking Graffiti Art Success for America exhibition at Fashion MODA. CRASH’s success as a contemporary artist has continued ever since.
Coming Full Circle refers to this one of a kind tondo canvas and his long connection to Amsterdam and the Netherlands. This work contains subtle references to his graffiti history, street inspirations, pop art, subway iconography, comics and more. CRASH’s visit to STRAAT coincided with the 50th anniversary of him doing graffiti.
