Blade

(US, 1957)

Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Blade is known as the ‘King of Graffiti’. He made a name for himself as a whole car specialist, covering entire train wagons. By 1980, after painting 5,000 wildly creative trains, he stopped counting.

Blade’s story parallels the New York graffiti movement almost from its inception, moving through its glory years in the mid-1970s, and ending in the global art scene, where he remains a major presence. Blade is an essential player in making New York graffiti become internationally famous. To this day, his work is characterized by a need for variations in styles and a natural approach.
