Apitatán

(Ecuador, 1987)

With these masks, Apitatán wanted to represent different stages of existence, or even the multiple lives people might have.

“When you are the animal, you are an individual, but when you are the universe, you get to be part of the whole thing. The contrast between these different states of being, raises questions like: What happens after death? At what point in life am I in this huge thing?” / Apitatán
