Sidney Waerts
(NLD, 1976)TOODAY - out of focus
now on view
Sidney Waerts positions his personal universe at the forefront of his work. By playing with emotional, metaphorical and actual contrasts, Sidney’s paintings cultivate a sense of discomfort. Black versus white, rough versus polished, good versus bad, life versus death – Sidney continuously sets his own emotional growth and evolution against that of the world’s.
A crow sits atop TOODAY – Out of Focus. This is a reoccurring figure in Sidney’s work, a representation of the artist looking down at the world beneath him. From the crow’s point of view, the world moves so fast that city lights are blurred, everything out of focus. This is the view of our own fast-paced lives.
