Many artistic journeys are rooted in the country and culture from which the artist has emerged. In the case of Zësar Bahamonte, the folklore of his native Andalusia in southern Spain has always been an important source of inspiration. After studying graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Seville, Zësar chose to focus his attention on handcrafts rather than computer-generated creations. This decision even prompted a move to Uruguay, where he learned how to build instruments. Musicians remain one of his favorite subjects.

“People that freely express themselves, without looking for applause, prizes or money, is the old meaning of folklore. It inspires me a lot. It’s incredible how the beauty there just expresses itself. It’s like a thing from another age that I want to take back and put in front of people.” / Zësar
