Cripta Djan is an exponent of the Brazilian Pixação movement. His mission is to educate the public about the meaning of ‘pixo’ through his art. In this piece, he writes: Pixo é o mudo das periferias de Sampa (Pixo is the mute on the periphery of São Paulo) - meaning that Pixo is a silent scream, which shouts through its forms.

“Pixo is the reclamation of the city by the excluded. Nowadays the city cares more and more about the interests of the private power: there are no spaces for culture and leisure, especially for young people coming from the outskirts. So pixo is the opportunity that we have to make use of the city in a public way. We force this public use, which is denied to us. That’s why we do pixo.” / Cripta Djan
