Khalid is a Rotterdam-based photographer from the Spangen neighborhood. In the NDSM wharf he recognises the rawness of the place he grew up in. Today, the train between Amsterdam and Rotterdam is faster than ever, and the free ferry takes you to NDSM in no-time. So, even for a Rotterdammer through and through like Khalid, NDSM in Amsterdam-Noord feels like a home game.
Graffiti hall of fame
For the past decades NDSM has been a number of things: one of the largest ship wharves in all of Europe, a deserted, industrial no-mansland, a popular location for parties, events and festivals - legal or sometimes otherwise -, and a graffiti and street art hall of fame, a space where artists can paint without reservation. Recently, the NDSM-wharf has also become a tourist attraction where, luckily, there still is space for parties, street art and city photographers.
