Collin van der Sluijs is a painter and illustrator from Maastricht, where he lives and works. He is widely recognized for his extraordinary dream-like depictions featuring wildlife imagery and everyday stories that question our personal pleasures and struggles, as well as society at large.
“The title Watercolor XL is a very conscious choice. I regularly cycle around my hometown Maastricht to do watercolor studies outdoors. The canvas here at STRAAT has the exact same dimensions as a watercolor-sized canvas, except that it’s larger. I worked with just base colors and mixed them on the spot. I went for improvisation, just as I would when doing watercolor studies outdoors back home.” / Collin van der Sluijs
