Jelmer Noordeman Transmission video installation Straat international street art Museum

Jelmer Noordeman

(The Netherlands, 1981)

Transmission consists of three videos made entirely with analog video equipment, accompanied by sounds made with an analog and a digital synthesizer. This installation plays with the idea of ‘boodschappen’ (Dutch for ‘groceries’), as it was created for the ‘Cultural supermarket’, which took place after the number of coronavirus cases in the Netherlands had just started to decrease. Subsequently, the work started to explore another meaning of ‘boodschappen’ (Dutch for ‘messages’). Therefore, we see words appear on the screen that were inspired by events happening at the time, such as ‘distance’ and ‘field’ .

"The whole video is like a mutilated video message from an unknown source that reads itself with the randomness of a shopping list." / Jelmer Noordeman
